Welcome
Volunteer Update!
April 2011
When over 400 people visited the Heritage Centre for our Family Day event our volunteers were here; running the activities and helping our guests. The success of the day was due in large part to their energy and dedication.
The Heritage Centre is on the receiving end of so much kindness and generosity from our volunteers; it got us thinking about they get out of it? So we went the source to find out! Here is just a bit of what our volunteers had to say:
"Currently, I am in my 6th year and enjoy it immensely. I love our new facility and especially like working with our awesome staff."
"I really enjoy visiting with our visitors from all over the world. They are so fascinated with the history of the RCMP and it is so much fun to be able to answer all their questions about Canada, our province and especially the police training at ‘Depot'."
"On graduation days, it is exciting to meet the families and friends of the recent graduates, finding out what part of Canada they are from and finding out the new member's first posting. Everyone is so happy and excited and this makes for a great place to volunteer."
"Volunteering at the Centre means you may have to help in any section which is always fun. I like working in the gift shop which is a fabulous place with lots of great souvenirs, knick knacks, clothes, art work, books, etc. A great place to purchase gifts for your family and friends!"
"As a Tour Guide I meet so many people whose fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, brothers or sisters were RCMP Members and they are proud to say that. I enjoy passing on information to visitors. The experience begins with the Tour of Duty movie in the SGI CANADA Theatre and then to the main Exhibit Gallery to explain the exhibits and displays. I enjoy telling personal stories of how I was involved in the many aspects of police work."
Thank you to all those who shared their stories. We invite anyone interested in volunteering to bring a friend and come see what the RCMP Heritage Centre is all about! Contact our Volunteer Coordinator at 522-7333 ext 3013 or email us today!
January 2011
The New Year is bringing some exciting changes to the volunteer program at the Heritage Center! We are in the process of developing a recruitment strategy to help us expand our already incredible volunteer base. We are looking forward to welcoming new volunteers to the Heritage Centre Family. In efforts to improve our current volunteer program, the Centre is holding a Volunteer Forum on Tuesday, January 18 at 1: 00 p.m. This will give our volunteers a chance to share their opinions regarding our current program. We are asking all of our volunteers to come and share their thoughts, ideas and suggestions with us!
One of the advantages of volunteering at the Heritage Centre is the variety of positions we have available. Whether you like working in the Gift Shop, or assisting with Educational Programming, there is a place for almost everyone to do what they enjoy. The variety of positions also allows our volunteers to take a chance and try something new. But why would you want to volunteer your time? Here are the Top 5 Reasons to volunteer at the RCMP Heritage Centre:
#5 You will be giving back to the community
#4 Explore new areas of interest
#3 Meet people and make new friends
#2 Contribute to a cause that you care about
#1 To have fun!

December 2010
The RCMP Heritage Centre loves its volunteers for all they do. To show our appreciation, the Centre held its annual Volunteer Recognition Event on Dec. 2. The evening was magical and brought out the holiday spirit in all. Several of the Centre's volunteer were honoured for their years of service. The Volunteer of the Year award was presented to Ken Fader. Ken has been a volunteer guide at the Centre since it opened. Being a retired member, Ken takes great joy in touring guests around the exhibits, telling stories and reliving his experiences. He is always here to greet guests as they leave the SGI CANADA theatre and willing to give as long or short of a tour aVolunts people would like. To experience one of Ken's exceptional tours come visit the Heritage Centre on Saturdays.
A wonderful dinner and funny hosts made the evening a hit. This event was sponsored by the generous support of the Friends of the Mounted Police Heritage Centre.
