Welcome

On Monday, June 25, 2007, the RCMP Centennial Museum staff relocated to the RCMP Heritage Centre. The office space is leased from the Centre by "Depot" Division. The unit now boasts a new name: the RCMP Historical Collections Unit (HCU). The unit is made up of a manager, a curator, a conservator and an administrative assistant and remains under the supervision of the Support Services Officer of "Depot" Division.

Note that the RCMP retains title to its artifacts collection, regardless of the move to the RCMP Heritage Centre. As in the past, the HCU will look after the acquisition, the preservation and the interpretation of the artifacts related to the history of the Mounted Police, or to the history of Canada, when the two are deemed to be one and the same.

The Heritage Centre's mandate is to tell the RCMP story, including the critical role the Force plays in addressing contemporary issues. The Centre does not have its own artifacts collection and, as such, Heritage Centre staff directs all donors of potential artifacts to the HCU for assessment and recommendation for disposition, in accordance with HCU policies. Items accepted by the HCU will become the permanent property of the RCMP.

Anyone wishing to donate objects, photographs or documents pertaining to the history of the Force is invited to contact HCU Manager Rhonda Lamb at 306-522-7333 ext. 3017.
