The RCMP Heritage Centre has a vibrant volunteer program thanks to our many dedicated and committed volunteers. Through their efforts and commitment we are able to enhance our visitors' experiences at the Centre.

By helping in the Centre, volunteers benefit in many ways including: learning new skills, meeting visitors from around the world, learning about the critical role of the RCMP in Canada, building resumé and career-related experiences, and meeting new friends.

Volunteers also receive benefits such as a free yearly membership after volunteering 75 hours (which includes unlimited access to the galleries and exhibitions), gift shop discounts, special recognition events, and reference letters.

The program is professionally administered and the positive team environment at the Centre ensures all volunteers feel welcomed and supported.

The RCMP Heritage Centre offers several different types of volunteer opportunities.  Some positions require more preparation than others but the Centre provides group and individual training to ensure success.  Current opportunities include:

Gift Shop: Volunteers play a key role in the successful operation of the Heritage Centre gift shop. Working in this area you will be asked to help customers, perform light cleaning duties and "ring through" purchases. This is a perfect opportunity for volunteers who enjoy working with members of the public and enjoy offering outstanding customer service.

Docent: A docent is someone who shares information with visitors about the RCMP Heritage Centre, its exhibits, and the RCMP historical collection. Docents also answer visitor questions and ensure that prohibited activities (such as eating in the exhibit gallery) do not occur. This opportunity is great for someone who likes to interact with a large number of people. In particular current and retired members of the RCMP are always welcome as visitors love to hear your stories and experiences.

Special Events: Occasionally the RCMP Heritage Centre hosts large special events that require volunteer support. This is an ideal role for individuals who prefer opportunities that are sporadic. Duties may include event set-up and take-down and greeting the public.

Educational Programming: Over the next year the RCMP Heritage Centre will be implementing its educational programming and volunteers are needed to help with organizing materials, working with school groups, and supporting our programming team. This is a great opportunity for individuals who enjoy working with children and the public.

Administration: Behind the RCMP Heritage Centre exists a team of people who are responsible for operations, marketing, fundraising, and programming. As a non-profit we rely on volunteers to help us enhance these areas with their skills and time. This is a perfect opportunity for individuals with particular skill sets or those looking to enhance their work-related experience.
